MY STORY

Hi, my name is Lana, owner, creator and maker of Bare & Organic.

My story for starting my small business I feel began a long time ago. I am the daughter of a wheatbelt farmer and my Mum was a beauty consultant selling a very well known skincare brand. I have always been surrounded by small business whether it be Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles the list goes on - it's definitely in my blood.

After graduating from University as a Physiotherapist and working for several years I always felt like something was missing. I just wanted to be my own boss and create something.

It took the arrival of my first baby to kick start my small business venture - I was desperate to find something I could do at home so I could stay home with my baby. This is where my little business some of you may know as 'Get the Skin' comes in. My dear friend Kat and I started our little business together making skincare and body products where many of the ideas and foundations for my products today have come from. Although I have ended up taking over the reins I am deeply grateful and eternally indebted to by beautiful friend Kat. Without her I would never have had the guts to give this small business thing a crack - thank you for your endless support and encouragement.

The decision to research and create my own skincare products is not new to me. I have been playing around for years making my own little concoctions to use. I had always suffered with pesky blemishes as a teenager and still into my mid-twenties. I could never get my skin totally clear. In 2014 when planning my wedding I went head first into researching a holistic approach to naturally clearing my skin. With a  combination of some small dietary changes and using 100% natural skincare products my skin cleared up! I now feel I have a great understanding of my own skin - I know what tends to flare it up and what calms it down. I have always had a very keen interest in health & wellness and enjoy creating what I call 'skin friendly' recipes - which I will share with you on my blog.

What you will find in my products are 100% natural plant based ingredients, certified organic where possible in their raw state or very minimally processed. When creating I don't take no for an answer - I have experimented and trialled until the cows come home to create products that contain no preservatives. As a result you will find absolutely no hidden nasties or preservatives in any of my products. I look carefully at the fatty acid profile of beautiful organic butters and oils to create products to suit different skin types.

My other great passion is environmental sustainability and low-toxin living - my ideas on this and what I personally do in my own home are shared on my blog. I am also firmly committed to spreading the word about Palm Oil Free products and $1 from every order placed is donated to the Orangutan Foundation International Australia (follow the link on my home page to find out more). I work hard to ensure that my products are packaged in environmentally friendly & sustainable containers and packaging.

You will also find some superfoods for sale on my site (available soon). I have had amazing success including these products into my diet. I not only feel better due to the incredible health benefits but as a bonus my skin glows. I have never found it easy to obtain these products, so I wanted to make them more accessible to everyone - especially to my fellow WA locals.

So there it is - my story and a snap shot of what I am passionate about. I love to design and create. I am forever driving my poor husband totally crazy with my DIY home projects - drilling holes in walls and picking up roadside bargains is a favourite pass time of mine.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to my incredibly supportive family - especially my Mum who has always instilled courage and determination to never give up on your dreams! My dear Dad, who helps me make equipment such as little lip balm holders to make my production time quicker. My awesome brother and sister-in-law (yes I am calling you that) who are such a huge support of my products.

To my amazing husband - thank you for letting me follow my dreams and passion. Thank you for letting me stay home with our beautiful children and working so hard for us - your constant smile, encouragement and support means the world to me and I could not do this without you.

Lastly, I would like to say a huge thank you to the amazing small business women I have met and made dear friends with over my journey - you are all incredible people! Your support and friendship is truly appreciated and I feel so lucky to have met you.

So there you have it - thank you for stopping by and if you made it to the end thank you for reading my essay! I truly hope you enjoy my products, reading my blogs and trying a recipe or two.

Enjoy the day :)
